Farraigí na hÉireann is a new six part Irish Ocean Wildlife series to be broadcast by TG4 from Tuesday September 20th 2011 at 8pm.
MAKING
THE SERIES
Farraigí was produced over a period of almost two years. The team
needed a full year of shooting to follow creatures through their seasonal
changes from feeding, mating, breeding and birth of their young.
Waiting for suitable
sea conditions in which to film can be difficult in Ireland, but when
the seas are calm, the diving and wildlife can be some of the most beautiful
anywhere on the planet. Oddly enough some of the best dive conditions
occur in winter, as the seawater is clearer when plankton descends to
deeper waters. Naturally, this means pretty cold conditions!
Farraigí na hÉireann was funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland's (BAI) 'Sound & Vision' scheme and TG4. Under this scheme the BAI funds high quality programmes on Irish culture, heritage and experience.
